How do I wash and care for my washable rug?

Wash your washable rug separately, using a mild detergent with a low pH- we find that baby detergents (like Dreft Newborn Baby Liquid Detergent and Babyganics Baby Laundry Detergent) are typically low in pH. We do not recommend using Tide or detergents like it when washing the rug. Because we use all non-toxic and natural dyes, harsher detergents like Tide can cause the colors to run. We also recommend running an extra rinse cycle to ensure that the detergent is fully washed from the rug to prevent any buildup. Placing a rug with detergent residue in the dryer can cause staining and discoloration.

Tumble the rug dry on delicate with the lowest temperature setting for up to a few hours. Because our washable rugs are made of natural fibers, they may take longer to dry. If the rug is still damp after drying for a few hours, you can lay it flat to air dry overnight.

Since our washable rugs are made of solely natural materials, they may release lint or loose threads. During initial use and following the first few washes, sweeping the rug with a stiff broom in the direction of the pile can help to remove any lint. After these initial washes, you should no longer see significant shedding or loose threads on the rug and should begin using a vacuum for cleaning. For any long strands, trim with scissors — never pull on a loose strand. More washable rug care details can be found here!
